Title: Update Materialdatabase
Post by: Mark on March 26, 2026, 03:13:20 PM
Hello,
i have added some materials to my GeoDict material database (for GeoDict2023). I also added some content to existing materials like water (I added the surface tension in the Metadata tab).
When I tried to save it, I got a message saying that it was an old version of GeoDict2023 and that this might cause problems with newer versions.

How can I update the text files for the materials to a new version without losing my added data?

Best regards
Mark

Hello Mark,

the easiest way update or use a material from an older GeoDict version is to copy the text file and place it in the database folder of the newer GeoDict version. If you now open the material database in the newer GeoDict version you can edit the material according to your needs and save the database. Your material will be updated to the newer GeoDict version by this step automatically and no data should be lost.

Please let me know if you have any further questions.

Best regards,
Lilli
